Rewards offered in 2 Northern California poaching cases

LOS ANGELES - California's Department of Fish and Wildlife is asking for the public's help in solving two separate cases: the killing of a male bighorn sheep in Siskiyou County and the maiming of an adult male deer in Humboldt County.

Officials said Wednesday that the bighorn carcass was discovered in June near a camping area with its head and horns cut off and missing.

Investigators say they don't know how the bighorn died, but stress that it is against the law to remove and possess parts of wildlife.

Fish and Wildlife officers found the deer with a gunshot wound in July near Eureka. The animal was paralyzed with a spine injury and had to be euthanized.

Rewards of up to $6,000 are offered for information in each case.
