HAYWARD - The Hayward police chief has been placed on administrative leave due to a personal issue.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/2bzwDhR) that officers announced Monday that Capt. Mark Koller will be acting chief while Chief Diane Stuart is on leave.

Police say the matter that left to Stuart's departure will remain confidential.

Stuart was named chief in 2011 and became the first woman at the helm of the department in its 13-chief history. She started her law enforcement career in 1986 as a San Jose Police Department.
