Driver dies in Highway 101 crash in Mendocino County

A woman died when her car collided with a tree along Highway 101 near Leggett Tuesday night.|

A Leggett woman died in a solo vehicle crash on Highway 101 in northern Mendocino County on Tuesday night, the CHP reported.

Paula Annette Sanders, 47, was driving alone in a 1994 Ford Escort south on Highway 101 near Leggett at 7:32 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle swerved off and back onto the road before crossing all four lanes and striking a tree, the CHP reported. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

One of the northbound lanes was closed until just before 11 p.m., the CHP said.

Cal Fire, Leggett Fire, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office and CHP responded to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation and it’s unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor, the CHP said.
