Police retrieve meth, guns, marijuana in Sebastopol bust

Andanie Antonio Mondragon, 21, of Sebastopol and Santa Rosa, was reportedly under investigation for several months because police sources identified him as a major source of methamphetamine.|

More than a kilogram of methamphetamine, three guns, several pounds of marijuana and military-style body armor were recovered by authorities Thursday from the car and Sebastopol bedroom of a man on bail for a prior assault-related incident, Santa Rosa police said.

Andanie Antonio Mondragon, 21, of Sebastopol and Santa Rosa, was under investigation for several months because he was identified as a major source of methamphetamine, according to police. But Santa Rosa narcotics officers decided to cut their investigation short when they learned the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office had recently handled several calls for service at Mondragon’s Sebastopol address.

“We knew that deputies were having to respond, and we weren’t going to risk the deputies’ safety knowing that we thought he may be armed,” said Sgt. Rich Celli.

Some 20 officers from the Santa Rosa Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration worked together to execute the search warrant at 2287 Schaeffer Road, according to Celli.

About 10 a.m., detectives saw Mondragon leave the house, where he was renting a bedroom and they pulled his car over on a traffic stop nearby, Celli said. There, officers served him with the search warrant and found about 1/4-pound of methamphetamine and a 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the car, police said.

Inside the room Mondragon was renting, authorities found 2.2 pounds - a kilogram - of methamphetamine, several pounds of marijuana, a loaded pistol-gripped shotgun, rifle-rated body armor and a Sten MK5 submachine gun, according to police. Several other tenants, including an elderly woman and multiple small children, were home at the time, Celli said.

Celli said police did not yet know whether Mondragon had purchased the guns legally, but he said the gun found in the car had its serial number removed - a felony.

Mondragon was on bail for a July incident in which he allegedly assaulted a pedestrian in a grocery story parking lot, Celli said.

Mondragon was booked at the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of possessing and transporting methamphetamine and marijuana for sale, possessing an assault rifle and possessing firearms while dealing narcotics, according to police. Committing a felony while on bail for a previous offense brought another charge, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Santa Rosa police at 707-543-4175.
