A Fort Bragg man phoned 911 multiple times, swore at dispatchers and fired a gun from his driveway before a SWAT team took him into custody Monday, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas C. Anderson, 61, was booked on suspicion of negligently discharging a firearm and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, said Sheriff’s Lt. Shannon Barney.

The phone calls began mid-afternoon Monday, officials said. During the calls, Anderson allegedly cursed and made threats.

Deputies went to his Mitchell Creek home, but Anderson hid from view and did not answer his door or phone. The officers left but returned after Anderson was reported firing a gun from his porch about 5 p.m.

Law enforcement evacuated the neighborhood and the sheriff’s SWAT team, along with its armored vehicle, was summoned. Anderson eventually was taken into custody without incident. Deputies found a handgun, rifle, shotgun and ammunition in the residence, officials said.
