The long-awaited Nordstrom Rack store opens Friday at Coddingtown Mall, and if the lines from Thursday's preview party were any indication, it's sure to be packed.

About 1,600 people swarmed the store Thursday afternoon for the party, lining up an hour early for the event that started at 4 p.m.

At 9 a.m. Friday, the store opens its doors to the public for the first time, though a crowd is expected to gather well before then, said Lindsey Accornero, manager of the Nordstrom Rack store in downtown San Francisco, who was on hand for the party Thursday.

For early birds, Nordstrom Rack is raffling off 30 $100 gift cards and one worth $1,000 on Friday morning.

The store will be open Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Regular store hours for the 31,000-square-foot outlet will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Seattle-based retail chain offers discounted retail items including merchandise culled from Nordstrom and Nordstrom.com clearance sections. The Santa Rosa location is the 14th Nordstrom Rack in Northern California.
