Crash shuts down Lakeville Highway

The Thursday accident sparked a grass fire that consumed as much as two acres.|

A head-on crash and resultant grass fire closed down Lakeville Highway south of Petaluma Thursday afternoon.

The 3:30 p.m. crash just north of Highway 37 closed down both lanes of the road, according to the Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer Jon Sloat said injuries to the involved parties are believed to be minor, but one vehicle was reported fully on fire.

The accident sparked a grass fire that consumed as much as two acres, but firefighters had it under control and were in “mop up” mode within an hour, according to a RedCom dispatcher.

The road was reported open sometime after 6 p.m.
