A Sonoma County fox has tested positive for rabies, the Department of Health Services said in a news release Monday.

The fox was tested last week after it exhibited aggressive behavior in the area of The Sea Ranch, drawing attention from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Anyone exposed to the fox was referred for a medical evaluation, and several domestic animals that were exposed received booster vaccinations and are quarantined by Sonoma County Animal Services, the release said.

In a usual year, about four animals test positive for rabies in Sonoma County, the release said.

If you see a domestic animal that is sick, injured, dead, orphaned or behaving oddly, leave it alone and contact Animal Services at 707-565-7100.
