A late Saturday night armed faceoff between a Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputy and a suspect ended peacefully, the Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.

Jason Dennis Lusk, 33, of Gualala was being sought in connection with the report of a stolen firearm at the time of the confrontation, which occurred at about 10:30 p.m. in a remote location on Gualala River Road, sheriff’s officials said.

When the deputy approached the vehicle, Lusk leaped from the car with a shotgun, officials said, but dropped it upon orders from the deputy, who also had drawn his weapon, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Lusk was taken into custody. The name of the deputy was not released.

Lusk was arrested on suspicion of assault with a firearm on a peace officer and being under the influence of a controlled substance while in possession of a loaded firearm. Whether the firearm was stolen is under investigation, sheriff’s officials said.
