SAN FRANCISCO - A San Francisco filmmaker who was arrested on suspicion of murder earlier this week says the man was shot and killed in self-defense.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/2eQ1dqZ) Kevin Epps says 45-year-old Marcus Polk intruded in his home and made "serious threats."

The 48-year-old Epps was arrested after Monday afternoon's shooting. But the district attorney's office decided Tuesday not to file charges, at least for now, suggesting that evidence of self-defense was a consideration, the newspaper reported.

Police officials have not elaborated on what preceded the killing of Polk, who was homeless and knew Epps and his family.

Epps says the shooting was "self-defense" but would not describe what happened - or even confirm if he had pulled the trigger - on the advice of his attorney, Mark Webb. Epps best known for his film "Straight Outta Hunters Point."
