One person died and another was hospitalized Monday following a car crash in Napa near the area where two bicyclists were recently killed by a passing truck.

Just before 9:25 a.m., a 57-year-old Napa man was driving a 1995 Toyota sedan south on Silverado Trail when the car drifted into the northbound lane north of Oak Knoll Avenue and collided with a Kenworth truck with a flatbed trailer, according to a California Highway Patrol-Napa report.

The Toyota’s passenger, who suffered moderate injuries, and its driver, with major injuries, were taken by ambulance to Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

The driver was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The man’s name will be released by the Napa County Coroner’s Office after his family has been notified.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

CHP is still investigating the cause of the collision, though alcohol and drug use is not suspected, the report said.

A fatal collision involving two Oregon bikers and a three-axle truck occurred near the same location Oct. 17.

Christian Deaton, 52, and Michelle Deaton, 48, a married couple from Portland, Oregon, were riding their bicycles north along Silverado Trail next to a three-axle truck carrying lumber when the wood shifted over the edge and hit the two.

Christian Deaton was pronounced dead at the crash site, just north of Oak Knoll Avenue.

Michelle Deaton suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, where she later died.
