An unconscious person was brought to the Healdsburg Police Department on Sunday night and later died, sparking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their death, police said.

The death was being treated as a homicide, Healdsburg police Lt. Matt Jenkins said.

“All deaths are treated as homicides until we determine the manner and cause,” Jenkins said.

Initial reports suggested the person was a child. Jenkins would not provide the age of the person or describe how they died.

“We are still looking into the circumstances of what happened,” he said.

An “unresponsive” person was brought to the back parking lot of the police department around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Jenkins said. An ambulance transported the person to Healdsburg District Hospital, where the person was pronounced dead, Jenkins said.

No one was in custody late Sunday night, he said.
