Fire destroys Sonoma barn, damages home

Flames destroyed a barn and damaged an adjacent home south of Sonoma Friday night.

The fire was reported by multiple callers at 7 p.m. on San Luis Road in Schellville. The initial report was of a 40-foot-tall tree engulfed in flames, emergency dispatchers said.

The first firefighters on the scene reported flames shooting from an outbuilding, telling emergency dispatchers the structure was “going to the ground.”

Firefighters contained the barn fire and kept the fire from spreading past the single-family home. They brought the fire under control by 8:30 p.m., dispatchers said.

Several fire agencies from surrounding communities, including Santa Rosa, Kenwood, Glen Ellen, Rancho Adobe and Wilmar responded to either help attack the blaze or cover stations for units battling it.
