A six-year-old Ukiah visitor was flown to a Bay Area hospital Monday night after a near-drowning in a hotel pool, according to a Ukiah Valley fire official.

Firefighters were called at 6:06 p.m. for a possible drowning of a child. The little boy had been limp and possibly unconscious when pulled from the water, Ukiah Valley fire Capt. Peter Bushby said.

The boy and two other children had been in the indoor, heated pool getting a swimming lesson from an adult when the boy floundered and went under the water, Bushby said. The boy quickly was pulled out and given CPR by an adult. Arriving Ukiah police and firefighters took over the medical aid.

He was taken to a hospital by ambulance but ongoing medical concerns resulted in his being flown by helicopter to Children's Hospital Oakland.

The out-of-town boy, who was not identified, was staying with his family at the Fairfield Inn and Suites on Airport Park Boulevard, Bushby said.
