UCSB students help rescue men from submerged truck

SANTA BARBARA - Two 19-year-old UC Santa Barbara roommates reacted quickly when they saw a pickup truck go off a highway in the Central Valley and submerge upside down in an irrigation canal.

KEYT-TV (http://bit.ly/2ibY0W3) reports that the pair stopped their car and Sydney Antles dove into the water while Emily Elmerick called 911, helping to save three men from drowning.

The accident occurred Monday as the students were driving to Fresno along State Route 41.

Elmerick says she watched in her rear-view mirror as the pickup went out of control.

Antles says that as she sprinted to the scene she realized this was one of the moments for which she was created.

Antles survived critical injuries from 2015 car crash, and she says she immediately thought of those who had helped her.
