Woman dies after vehicle crashes into rocks, Clear Lake

A Lucerne woman died last week a day after her vehicle crashed along Highway 20 in Lake County.

Jessica Smith, 31, died Jan. 13 of injuries sustained the day before, when she apparently lost control of her vehicle, allowing it to drift off the edge of the highway, strike multiple rocks, roll and then land upside down in Clear Lake, the CHP reported Thursday.

Smith had been transported to Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport, where she later died, the CHP said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to CHP. Officials have yet to determine whether alcohol or drugs was a factor.
