A 71-year-old Santa Rosa woman was seriously injured when her car struck a large redwood tree off Saint Helena Road north of Santa Rosa on Friday night.

The woman, identified as Marianne Murray, was traveling eastbound in a Subaru Forester around 6:10 p.m. when she veered off the road for unknown reasons about 2 miles east of Calistoga Road, at Tarwater Road, the CHP said.

Murray’s car struck a redwood about 2 feet in diameter, CHP Sgt. Andrew Henkens said.

She suffered major injuries in the crash and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment, Henkens said.

Murray was unable to remember what happened in the moments before the crash nor what caused her to leave the roadway, he said.
