A lost Petaluma calf is back home again after a Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy found it wandering Monday night along Spring Hill Road.

The newborn calf, soaking wet from the rain, was found by Deputy James Falberg, who put the animal - named “Stormy” - in the back of his patrol car, swaddled her in a towel and took her to animal control while waiting for an owner to come forward.

The department’s Facebook post about the lost calf has now been shared almost 500 times and drew the attention of the local agriculture community, said Sgt. Spencer Crum.

They quickly figured out the young calf belonged to Larry Peter, owner of Spring Hill Jersey Cheese and Petaluma Creamery, who collected the little one from animal control and took her home.
