Santa Rosa rain record will have to wait; days of sunshine forecast

The sun will be shining brightly on Santa Rosa into next week.|

Here is a weather story that, for a change, is not about rain.

Just briefly, though, let's get the record-rain-year thing out of the way: No, we haven't broken the record yet; just .17 inches to go.

Now, onward to the sunshine.

This weekend, Santa Rosa is set to see a high of 82 Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, we haven't had a temperature that high since Oct. 20, when the temperature peaked at 85. That's more than a five-month wait, and for a place called the Golden State, such weather is long overdue.

Also on the weather front, a wind advisory is in effect in the hills ending at noon Friday.

Anna Schneider, a forecaster with the weather service, said the sunshine is likely to continue into Wednesday morning with highs in the low-to-mid-70s, thanks to a high-pressure ridge that's settled over the West Coast, keeping any of the cold, wet stuff well north.

There is a slight chance of rain for Wednesday in Santa Rosa, but whether it will be enough record-breaking precipitation is anyone's guess.
