Single engine plane bound for Petaluma Municipal Airport reported missing

Air rescue crews are searching the Sierra mountains for a light single engine aircraft that was expected to land at the Petaluma Municipal Airport on Monday night.

The plane, a Socata TB-20 Trinidad, left the Truckee-Tahoe Airport in Truckee just before 4 p.m. on Monday with two people on board, according to statement released Tuesday afternoon by the Civil Air Patrol, the all-volunteer civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

Lt. Col. Crystal Housman of the Civil Air Patrol said Tuesday afternoon that a Civil Air Patrol single engine Cessna and a California Highway Patrol helicopter were assisting in the search.

The plane is registered to William H. Sherlock of Santa Rosa, who was listed in FAA records as a co-owner.

Family members reported that the aircraft had not arrived Monday night, the Civil Air Patrol said. The four-seat low-wing aircraft is blue with white with gold trim and is equipped with a 406 megahertz emergency locater transmitter, officials said.

No satellite hits have come in from the beacon, the air patrol said.
