Dalton Carlson, the Santa Rosa man accused of killing his estranged wife and father in late February, pleaded not guilty this week in Sonoma County Superior Court, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Carlson, 32, faces murder charges for the brutal slayings of Jessica Carlson, 37, and Dale Carlson, 57, whose bodies were found Feb. 25 in their homes on the east and west sides of Santa Rosa.

Prosecutors allege Carlson used a gun on his wife but during his arraignment did not specify how the father was killed. Police have said Carlson was arrested with a hammer and a knife.

Joseph Langenbahn, a spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office, said a preliminary hearing for the case has been scheduled for July 31.
