Police: Two days after crash into Santa Rosa pet store, same driver slams into parked vehicles

Same driver, same bad result.

The 26-year-old Santa Rosa man arrested after allegedly crashing through a pet store window Monday night was arrested again Wednesday after slamming into parked vehicles on Montecito Boulevard, police said.

Jeffrey Dallas Pearson walked away from the first one, but not the second, as he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Sgt. Dan Hackett said in a press release.

Officers found drugs and signs of drinking alcohol in the 2014 Ford Focus that took out the front wall of Village Pets on Montgomery Drive about 9:15 p.m. An ambulance crew spotted Pearson walking away and followed him until police arrived.

Pearson allegedly told officers he had smoked marijuana before driving and had been going about 60 mph when he lost control and crashed, police said. He was taken to the Sonoma County Jail, police said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor Wednesday as Pearson, now driving a 2000 GMC Yukon at a “high rate of speed,” slammed into several parked vehicles in the 500 block of Montecito Boulevard about 4:50 p.m., Hackett said.

Witnesses said the Yukon was westbound on the boulevard when it struck the vehicles, causing significant damage in some cases, he said. The roadway was closed for several hours while the vehicles and some damaged trees were removed.

No one was injured in the pet store crash as the Focus narrowly missed fish, rats and mice kept in the store, officials said. Merchandise and the cash register area were damaged.

Had the crash occurred during business hours, several people would have been in the cashier area and could have been injured, a fire official said.

Pearson appeared to have been northbound on Summerfield Road approaching the “T” intersection with Montgomery Drive, police said. Instead of turning left or right, the car went straight, crossing two islands and a parking area before crashing into the building.

Officials said there were about 100 feet of skid marks, from Summerfield Road to the building, indicating the driver had attempted to stop.

The investigation of Wednesday's crash is ongoing and anyone with information about it is asked to call Officer Mike Mieger at 543-3600. Anyone who saw Monday's crash is asked to call Officer Nick Vlahandreas at the same number.
