Santa Rosa teen in stolen car leads police on high-speed chase

A 14-year-old Santa Rosa boy driving a stolen SUV was arrested early Friday after leading Rohnert Park police on a high-speed, 14-mile pursuit that ended when he drove over a median and flattened his tires, officials said.

The boy, later discovered to have 10 no-bail warrants for his arrest, was spotted driving the 2007 Jeep Compass without headlights near downtown Cotati about 2 a.m. Friday by a Rohnert Park officer, Sgt. David Sutter said.

With two passengers, 14- and 15-year-old boys also from Santa Rosa, the driver didn’t stop for police at Old Redwood Highway and East Cotati Avenue, fleeing on West Sierra Avenue, police said.

The boy drove recklessly, reaching 100 mph, heading north on Stony Point Road to Santa Rosa and sideswiped another vehicle while driving on the shoulder to pass, according to Sutter.

The boy turned east on Hearn Avenue and crossed over Highway 101, then doubled back, flattening two tires while driving over a median and finally coming to a stop near Dowd Drive.

The teen driver was arrested on suspicion of felony evasion and possession of a stolen vehicle and booked into Sonoma County juvenile hall. His name was withheld because of his age. The other teens were detained but not arrested.
