A Santa Rosa man was arrested twice Wednesday night - first when he was pulled over for expired registration and police found pot and $55,000 in the car, and later when he bailed out of jail and came home to a squad of detectives raiding his house, where they seized drugs, a stolen handgun and other evidence, Rohnert Park police said.
Early Thursday, Stephen Potter Elliott, 41, remained in the Sonoma County Jail, with bail of $25,000, jail personnel said.
His new charges included suspected possession of a controlled substance, possession of an illegal and loaded firearm, possession of marijuana plants, receipt of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drugs without a prescription, jail personnel said.
Elliott was driving on Rohnert Park Expressway in Rohnert Park when Officer Jason Williams pulled him over around 8:42 p.m. Wednesday because of the vehicle's expired registration, the Rohnert Park Public Safety Department said.
After detecting the odor of marijuana coming from the car, Williams searched it and found about 2 1/2 pounds of groomed marijuana and the $55,000, police said.
Elliott was arrested and booked into the county jail for suspected possession of marijuana for sale and transporting marijuana.
Police also obtained a search warrant for his Bennett Valley Drive home in Santa Rosa.
Special enforcement detectives searching his house uncovered an indoor marijuana grow with more than 200 plants at various stages of maturity, about 13 pounds of packaged, processed pot, numerous prescription pills, psychedelic mushrooms and a small amount of methamphetamine, as well as drug paraphernalia, police said.
Also found was a handgun reported stolen out of San Francisco and $4,600 in additional cash, police said.
The search was still ongoing when Elliott arrived home, police said.
He was then arrested on the additional charges stemming from the evidence uncovered in his house.
