Two men were shot Sunday night while walking on a local bike path in an apparent gang-related attack, according to Santa Rosa police.

Officers were called about 9:50 p.m. to a home on Grand Avenue about a person with a gunshot wound. On the way they learned of a second victim found on Colgan Avenue.

The two, believed to be in their 20s, were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

They’d been at Martin Luther King Park and were headed home along the Newhall bike path when a group of gang members approached them on the dark path, gang investigations Sgt. Tommy Isachsen said Monday.

“They had been at the park all day celebrating birthdays and were calling it a night,” Isachsen said. “The initial confrontation happened as they started on the path.”

Each of the men was shot at least once but both were able to run for help. One stopped on Grand Avenue to knock on a stranger’s door. The other continued a few more blocks into the South Park neighborhood.

No one has been arrested.

Isachsen said he suspected the assault wasn’t random. Detectives Monday were continuing the investigation and hoped to interview the victims.

Officials asked anyone with information to contact detectives at 707-543-3670.

A reward of $2,500 is being offered by the Sonoma County Alliance for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved, Isachsen said.
