Blaze destroys Guerneville house, damages two others

A fire destroyed a two-story home and damaged two others late Saturday night in Guerneville.

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 11:30 p.m. at Eagle Nest Lane, just west of Rio Nido Road, Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman said. When they arrived, he said they found the two-story home consumed in flames.

The resident escaped injury, Baxman said. Neighbors pulled her and two of her three dogs out of the house. A search continues for the third dog.

Cal Fire, Monte Rio, Forestville and Russian River fire crews responded to the call. It took an hour for the 20 firefighters to put out the blaze, which had spread to a vacation home to the north and another house to the south, Baxman said. The vacation home sustained little damaged, but the house to the south suffered major fire and smoke damage, he said.

Baxman estimated the blaze caused total damage of $750,000. The cause remains under investigation.
