A Clearlake man turned himself in to police early Thursday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman multiple times April 19 and then stealing her vehicle.

Michael Lamar, 25, found a woman sleeping in her vehicle on the 1500 block of Lakeshore Drive, Clearlake police said in a statement.

Lamar then opened the door and sexually assaulted the victim, police said. Lamar is then alleged to have forced the woman into the trunk of her vehicle and then drove to a remote area north of the Clearlake city limits, where he sexually assaulted her again, police said.

Lamar then stole the victim’s vehicle, leaving her stranded on the side of the road, according to police. A car passing by picked up the victim and brought her to St. Helena Hospital Clearlake, where police were contacted at 6 a.m.

A medical examination of the victim found DNA evidence the police were able to link to Lamar, who is a registered sex offender, police said.

Clearlake police stated Lamar was wanted on a $1 million warrant in a public notice issued Wednesday. Lamar then called police and turned himself in early this morning without incident, police said.
