Suspicious fires in Santa Rosa prompt investigation

A series of suspicious small fires burned in Santa Rosa in the last three days, said Santa Rosa police and fire officials Monday.

The fires all caused very minor damage, officials said.

They began Saturday night, when two burned in dumpsters behind the Costco on Santa Rosa Avenue, said Santa Rosa fire Battalion Chief Mike Jones.

Saturday night's fires were close in timing and proximity, said Jones.

A small fire on Sunday also appeared suspicious, located near a homeless camp close to Guerneville Road and Range Avenue.

That fire spread to a nearby fence before it was doused.

At about 8:15 a.m. Monday a 911 caller reported a small fire along the Joe Rodota trail, which connects Sebastopol to Santa Rosa along Highway 12.

Santa Rosa officers responded.
