A Santa Rosa man was seriously injured when his pickup crashed into a tree early Sunday in the Piner Road area, police said.

Felix Fernando Carreon, 23, was transported to a hospital with what appeared to be “possible life-threatening injuries” following the crash about 4 a.m. in front of an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Bay Village Circle, Sgt. Summer Black said in a statement.

Carreon was the driver and sole occupant of a blue 1998 Chevrolet pickup that went out of control and struck a tree, winding up on the sidewalk, Black said. Carreon was found on the ground near the truck, which sustained major damage, she said.

Eastbound Piner Road was closed to traffic as police investigated the crash.

A witness told police he saw the truck speeding prior to the crash. Officers were attempting to determine if alcohol or drugs were involved, Black said.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call police at 707-543-3636.
