A fire threatened homes and blackened nearly 10 acres just south of Lakeport Sunday afternoon before it was brought under control with an air and ground attack.

The fire was reported just after noon in the area of Island View Drive and Scott Street and was contained about half an hour later with the aid of three Cal Fire aircraft and a helicopter, backed by two fire crews and five fire engines.

“Structures were threatened,” said Cal Fire Chief Leah Simmons-Davis. “They were quite worried about it for awhile.”

“It came up the decks on a couple of them,” Lakeport Fire Capt. Dan Copas said of the proximity of the flames to homes. “We were able to get on it fast enough and protect the structures.”

Simmons-Davis said the blaze broke out in a grassy woodland area. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Kelseyville and North Shore fire departments also assisted.
