A new sign hanging in a Berkeley butcher shop's window doesn't advertise the latest sandwich deals or the day's specials, instead it reminds customer that killing animals is, in fact, violent, according to reports in The Washington Post and other media outlets.

The peculiar sign marks the end of a months-long dispute between the owners of The Local Butcher Shop and Direct Action Everywhere, animal rights activists who have staged more than a dozen protests at the family-owned Shattuck Avenue store.

The protests, often featured people dripping in fake blood bound in plastic wrap like cuts of meat.

The sign, which was taped to the six-year-old store's window over the weekend, reads "Attention: Animals lives are their right. Killing them is violent and unjust, no matter how it's done."
