Fire destroyed a Sonoma Valley home early Saturday morning, but occupants of the Felder Road house were uninjured, fire officials said.

The fire was reported about 6:19 a.m., and when firefighters arrived on scene a few minutes later, they found the home completely engulfed in flames, said John Franceschi, battalion chief with the Sonoma Valley Fire District. All occupants of the home were out of the structure at the time, Franceschi said. No one was injured.

Franceschi estimated the fire was extinguished by about 8:30 a.m., but the damage took until nearly ?10:20 a.m. to clean up. Firefighters used a Cal Fire bulldozer to push the wreckage into a pile, Franceschi said.

“We never could get in - it was just a big ball of fire when we pulled up,” he said.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, according to Franceschi, who described the house as an old, wood-framed structure. The residents had shut off power to the home, but he did not know why.

Cal Fire and Schell-Vista firefighters also responded to the scene, Franceschi said.
