Life of track-meet starter Bob Shor to be celebrated Sept. 16

A memorial for Bob Shor, a fixture at the region’s running events, will be Sept. 16 at Santa Rosa High School.|

A memorial gathering for Bob Shor, for decades the ex-soldier who commanded the starting line at track-and-field meets throughout Sonoma County and beyond, will begin at 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at Santa Rosa High School.

Shor, a proponent of competitive running as the sport that does young people the most good, died Aug. 9 at his Santa Rosa home. He was 76.

The memorial will take place inside the high school’s auditorium.

Shor’s wife, Alix, and daughter, Adrienne Anila, invite memorial donations to the Santa Rosa High School Foundation, P.O. Box 11006, Santa Rosa 95406, or to the Panther Athletic Club, c/o Santa Rosa High School, 1235 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa 95401.
