Mountain lion sightings in east Santa Rosa prompted a warning from police about approaching the possibly wounded animal.

Officers were summoned Wednesday to two separate calls of a mountain lion. The first call, near Chanate Road and Fountaingrove Boulevard, came about 2:30 a.m. A resident reported seeing the animal wandering in the area.

A second report came at 9:30 p.m. Officers were called to Montecito Meadows and Chanate Road after someone reported hitting a mountain lion with their car.

Officers were unable to locate the animal.

Police believe the mountain lion may still be in the area and could be injured. They urged people not to approach the animal and asked anyone who sees it to call 911.
