An unidentified homicide victim’s body was found Wednesday morning along Covelo Road near Covelo, and authorities are seeking help from the public in determining what happened, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim appears to be a Hispanic man, 25 to 35 years old, whose body was dumped near milepost marker 24.98 shortly before the crime was reported about 10:30 a.m., Lt. Shannon Barney said in a press release.

The man was “clearly the victim of a homicide,” Barney said, but did not elaborate.

The Sheriff’s Office asked anyone who may have seen a vehicle parked in a dirt pullout or people acting suspiciously on Covelo Road, which is Highway 162, from Covelo south to the Dos Rios area between 9:45 a.m. and noon Wednesday to call 707-463-4086 or 707-234-2100.

Social media posts suggesting that a certain vehicle has been identified or an arrest has been made are false, Barney said.
