SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco police arrested two people and briefly closed a portion of a major city thoroughfare near a tourist attraction after officers heard gun shots.

Police say it appears no one was injured in the incident Thursday afternoon. Officers reopened Market Street around 4 p.m. after closing it for about an hour.

The incident happened about two blocks from a popular cable car stop where tourists line up to board the San Francisco icons. A major shopping center is across the street.

Spokeswoman Grace Gatpandan said a handgun has been recovered, but police did not release the names of the suspects.
