River Road was closed for more than two hours Saturday evening after a

head-on collision left six people injured, one critically, and all lanes

blocked.

The accident, between a Mitsubishi Montero and a Ford pickup with an empty

canoe trailer in tow, took place just after 7 p.m. on River Road near River

Drive.

The CHP is investigating whether the driver of the Montero was intoxicated,

Officer Brian Hawkins said.

Each vehicle was carrying three people.

All sustained at least moderate to serious injuries and were transported to

local hospitals.

The CHP did not release their names.

The eastbound Montero was driving erratically before swerving into the

pickup, according to Hawkins.

The CHP reopened River Road just before 10 p.m.
