River Road was closed briefly Sunday morning near Forestville as firefighters and CHP officers responded to a head-on collision, part of a three-vehicle crash that sent four people, including three juveniles, to the hospital, according to the CHP.

The 9:45 a.m. incident occurred near the intersection of River Drive.

According to the CHP, a 16-year-old eastbound driver from Cloverdale allowed his 2009 Pontiac G8 sedan to drift over the double yellow line into the path of an oncoming 2008 Mercedes Benz SUV. The impact pushed the SUV toward the right shoulder, where it struck a utility trailer.

A vehicle behind the Pontiac tried to avoid the collision but hit the left side of the car.

Three juvenile passengers in the Pontiac were injured. Kylie Benjamin of Santa Rosa, whose age was not available, was hospitalized as a precaution. Andrew Butin, 16, and Rene Tolson, 15, both of Windsor, had major injuries, including broken bones, but none was considered life-threatening.

Julia Ishimaru, 50, the driver of the SUV, was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The name of the 16-year-old Pontiac driver is being withheld while investigators determine whether he faces any charges, CHP spokesman Jon Sloat said in a statement.
