Sheriff: Felon found with thousands of rounds of ammunition in pickup on Geysers Road
Thousands of rounds of rifle ammunition, a gun, bottle rockets and firecrackers were found Saturday when a Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy stopped to check on a suspicious man sitting in the bed of a pickup, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Joe Myers was on Geysers Road about 2 a.m. Saturday when he saw a man with a headlamp duck down into the truck bed as the deputy approached, sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Crum said Monday.
The man, Cean Garner, 33, was previously convicted of a robbery, and last month was arrested on suspicion of drugs and weapons charges, Crum said. The criminal history makes it illegal for him to have a gun or ammunition.
Garner, who was wearing an empty gun holster, had a magazine of .45-caliber rounds in his pocket. A search of the truck bed turned up a .45-caliber pistol, 49 large-capacity rifle magazines, several bags of ammunition and eight ammunition cans holding as much as 20,000 rounds of ammunition, Crum said.
Deputies also found bottle rockets, firecrackers and a launching tube for large fireworks.
Garner, a transient, was arrested on suspicion of five felonies involving the gun and ammunition possession and a misdemeanor violation of possessing dangerous fireworks. Deputies booked him into the Sonoma County Jail on $30,000 bail.
