Using a key hidden in a yard for emergencies, a suspected burglar entered a Schellville home late Saturday night but was caught later after a resident awakened and alerted deputies, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

The man fled when the resident awoke to find him standing in his bedroom and chased him out. Deputies, called at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, were searching the neighborhood when a man emerged from some bushes. He had a key to the home, which residents had hidden in their yard, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Derick Zollo, 31, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and outstanding warrants and taken to the Sonoma County Jail. He remained in custody Monday morning on $50,000 bail.
