A woman suspected of sneaking into bridal rooms and stealing wallets during two recent weddings is being sought by Petaluma police.
The first theft occurred Dec. 30 at a wedding in St. Vincent de Paul Church. A bridesmaid told police her wallet was taken from her purse in a back room of the church. The bridesmaid later learned her credit cards had been used at various businesses in Petaluma and Santa Rosa, police said in a statement.
Police said the suspect struck again about a week later, at a Jan. 6 marriage ceremony at Calvary Chapel Petaluma. This time, several bridesmaids reported that an unknown woman had entered the bridal room and taken wallets from their purses, police said. One bridesmaid contacted her credit card company and learned the suspected wedding thief had used her credit card at several businesses in Petaluma.
The case was handed over to Community Service Officer Jennifer Caiati, who obtained video footage of the suspect using a stolen credit card at Target in Petaluma. Caiati determined the woman in the video footage is also suspected in the Dec. 30 wedding theft.
The woman is identified as a heavy-set white woman with red hair.
Petaluma police asked anyone with information about the suspect to call Officer Ron Flores at 707-781-1227 or Officer Caiati at 707-781-1209.
