Santa Rosa teen shot, wounded while sitting in car

A 17-year-old teen was shot and wounded Monday night while sitting in his car in southwest Santa Rosa, according to Santa Rosa police.

The Santa Rosa teen had been parked on Gardner Avenue outside of a home in the residential neighborhood about 7:20 p.m. when he was hit. Santa Rosa police Sgt. Tommy Isachsen Tuesday said there didn’t appear to be a confrontation and it wasn’t clear whether the victim saw who shot him.

The injured teen drove himself to a nearby urgent care center on Corporate Center Parkway but it was closed. A 7:26 p.m. call to 911 brought paramedics and police to the medical center and the youth was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The gunshot wound wasn’t believed to be life threatening, according to police. Isachsen declined to say where the teen was hit. The youth’s name wasn’t released because he’s a juvenile.

He was cooperating with officers and detectives Tuesday were seeking a motive, witnesses and suspects.

Information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter is worth a $2,500 reward offered by the Sonoma County Alliance.
