An 18-year-old Sebastopol car passenger Monday lost her right arm and suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash off a rural west county road.

About 1:40 p.m. Monday, driver Thomas Henney’s Buick LaSabre ran off Mill Station Road south of Occidental Road and rolled into a field. Amanda Odeen, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was ejected, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said Tuesday. The car landed on her as it rolled upright.

Henney, 21, of Forestville, told officers he’d swerved to avoid a bicyclist when he lost control. Henney smelled of marijuana and CHP officers determined he was impaired. Sloat said there was a possibility a prescription drug also could be involved and a blood test was expected to determine to what extent.

Drivers and a cyclist stopped to help and found Odeen under the car. They pulled her out as Graton firefighters and paramedics arrived.

“Her arm just below the shoulder was almost completely amputated,” said Graton Fire Chief Bill Bullard, who also responded to the call.

Paramedics applied a tourniquet and she was flown by the Sonoma County sheriff’s helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Henney was taken by Sonoma Life Support ambulance to the same hospital where he was treated for facial cuts and minor injuries.

Officers arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, causing injuries. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail with bail set at $100,000.
