Mendocino County Tourism Commission executive director accused of embezzling from prior job

The executive director of Mendocino County’s nonprofit tourism commission has been charged with embezzling money from his previous job leading a similar organization in Yolo County.

Alan Humason, 63, is suspected of taking an unspecified amount “in the thousands” from the Davis-based nonprofit Visit Yolo, according to Davis Police Lt. Paul Doroshov.

The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday filed a felony embezzlement complaint against Humason, saying the suspected theft occurred between Feb. 4, 2011 and June 10, 2017, which appears to be the years he worked for the group according to his online resume. The complaint states he took more than $950, the legal threshold for a felony charge.

Mendocino County Tourism Commission board Chair John Kuhry said they have found no evidence Humason has mishandled funds since he was hired in April and are “limiting Humason’s financial access and oversight” while the case is pending.

“At this point, there is no indication of impropriety with Humason’s work or professionalism at MCTC and he has performed well as executive director,” Kuhry said.

Humason is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 21 in Yolo County.
