A man suspected of drunken driving was arrested late Saturday after a brief pursuit ended in crash with the pursuing Ukiah police officer, authorities said.

Salvador Garcia-Polvos, 30, was apparently unhurt in the wreck and booked into the Mendocino County Jail for suspicion of felony evasion and drunken driving causing injury, law enforcement authorities said.

Ukiah Police Sgt. Noble Waidelich said the unidentified officer attempted to stop Garcia-Polvos for speeding at 10:14 p.m. in the 700 block of South State Street, near the Ukiah Municipal Airport.

Instead, the suspect vehicle sped off, leading the officer on a 2 ½-mile chase that ended with the crash on Vichy Springs Road, just past Oak Manor Drive, in eastern Ukiah, he said.

The officer, whose name was not available, suffered undisclosed minor injuries in the crash, Waidelich said. Garcia-Polvos was booked at the Mendocino County Jail, where he remained Sunday morning.
