Rohnert Park police save man from overdose with naloxone

Rohnert Park Public Safety officers said they saved a 67-year-old man’s life Saturday by administering naloxone after he had overdosed on heroin.

When officers responded to the call of a possible overdose they found the man barely breathing and used the opioid overdose reversal drug to revive him, Rohnert Park Public Safety said in a statement. The man regained consciousness within 5 minutes and was taken to a local hospital.

One-fifth of Sonoma County Coroner’s cases from Rohnert Park in 2017 were drug related, officials said.

In December, Rohnert Park Public Safety started a field naloxone program to reduce the number of opioid-related deaths in the city.
