A 64-year-old woman was in critical condition Wednesday after being struck in a crosswalk while walking her dog over the weekend, authorities said.

Marie Root was rushed to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with significant injuries from the 6:45 p.m. Sunday crash on Windsor River Road, Windsor police officials said. A hospital spokeswoman said Root remains in the intensive care unit.

Root was walking in a marked crossing at Starr Road when she was hit by a vehicle making a left turn, according to police. Driver Ginger Majerus, 38, of Windsor had stopped at a stop sign before making the turn onto southbound Starr Road, police said. Majerus remained on scene. Animal control officers took custody of the dog, which was uninjured.

Anyone with information about the case can call Windsor police at 707-838-1234.
