Truck thieves target Petaluma, 4 taken plus a car in 1 day

Petaluma police: Sunday’s five vehicle thefts targeted work tools.|

Truck thieves made Petaluma their stomping ground Sunday stealing four trucks and a car, according to Petaluma police.

The targets were primarily work trucks with the thieves apparently targeting tools, Petaluma police Lt. Tim Lyons said Monday.

Within hours of disappearing, three of the vehicles were found parked on rural roads just outside the city, stripped of their tools.

Three of the vehicles were stolen from east Petaluma and two on the west side. The thefts began about 7 a.m. Sunday. In addition, two trucks were broken into Sunday in the city, and work equipment was stolen.

Lyons said the city’s average vehicle theft rate is less than one per day.
