A 37-year-old Ukiah man remained hospitalized Tuesday from stab wounds and severe head trauma after being attacked while in a residential Ukiah neighborhood.

The Ukiah police investigation of the early Saturday attack, where the man was stabbed twice and hit in the head, has stalled as the man remains sedated and faces surgery in an out-of-county hospital. Detectives haven’t been able to talk to him, said Ukiah police Sgt. Cedric Cook, who is supervising the investigation.

The man was discovered about 2:20 a.m. Saturday by a person riding a bicycle who heard moaning and called police. Officers found him unconscious and in a pool of blood in a driveway of a large apartment complex in the 700 block of South Oak Street. The residential area is not far from downtown Ukiah.

An ambulance took the man to Ukiah Valley Medical Center and he was flown to a second hospital.

Detectives meanwhile are checking for surveillance tapes in the area and witnesses.

Crook asked anyone with information to contact officers or detectives at 707-463-6262.
