The man found dead in a burning truck in a Windsor vineyard Saturday was identified as 69-year-old Michael Dawson, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Santa Rosa man was found in the driver’s seat of his white Chevrolet pickup when Windsor firefighters were called to a fire off Los Amigos Road near Limerick Lane just after 4:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said.

Once firefighters extinguished the flames, they noticed his body.

A single set of tire tracks indicated Dawson’s truck went off the road and then hit some fence posts, where it became stuck and somehow caught on fire, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Crum said.

How the fire started is still under investigation.

Investigators have not ruled out any cause of death, including an accident, a suicide, a medical issue or a homicide, though foul play seems unlikely, Crum said.
