An armed man carrying a loaded handgun, hatchets and burglary tools was in custody in the Mendocino County Jail after a Ukiah police officer spotted him late Sunday night outside a market, police officials said Monday.

The officer spotted a man in front of the Prime Market on West Mill Street about 10:35 p.m. and stopped to investigate.

Police said the man carried a bag holding three hatchets, bolt cutters, metal files, pliers, chisels, gloves and a meth pipe. He also had a concealed, loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun.

Officers arrested Julian Salazar, 43, of Sacramento, on suspicion of being a felon with a gun, carrying a hidden loaded gun in public, having burglary tools and drug paraphernalia. He was booked into jail with bail set at $25,000, according to jail records.
